New editor takes over at Brass Band World magazine

David Childs is to become the new editor of Brass Band World magazine after Philip Harper steps down after six years at the helm.

David Childs

It has been announced that Philip Harper is stepping down as the Editor of Brass Band World magazine to pursue other career interests.

He will be succeeded by the international euphonium star David Childs.

Accomplished

Speaking about the departure after six years at the helm, Managing & Editorial Director, Nicola Bland, told 4BR: "It's been a joy to work with Philip. I have appreciated his straightforward approach, comprehensive and accomplished musical knowledge and profile, his intelligence and humour.

He will be missed by the BBW team, but he leaves the magazine in a strong position in the worldwide brass market."

Enjoyed

Philip himself reflected: "I've really enjoyed my editorship, which was a surprising and unexpected development when I started six years ago.

However, it's been a pleasure to work with Niki and Philip Morris at Kapitol Media, and to have the chance to meet so many people from all corners
of the brass band globe.

I will now be concentrating on my main work with Cory Band, as well as spending a lot more time composing, which I want to develop as much as I can.

I wish to thank the readers of the magazine and wish the best of luck to David, who will do a great job as the new Editor."

Legacy

Looking forward Nicola Bland added: "The legacy of quality that has been the hallmark of Philip's editorship will go forward with David, who has conquered just about every performance, recording and award accolade.

His cross-genre international profile, comprehensive musical knowledge and strong commitment to education and youth development offers BBW such an exciting future.

He is keen to be in regular contact with BBW's audience, reinforcing the magazine's strong hard copy and social media presence. We are really delighted that David has accepted the editorship!"

BBW is the movement's premier monthly publication and I'm very excited about the future and look forward
to being part of the magazine's continued developmentDavid Childs

Pride

Speaking to 4BR David Childs added: "Brass Bands have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember, and it's with great pride that I have accepted the position following in some very significant footsteps.

BBW is the movement's premier monthly publication and I'm very excited about the future and look forward to being part of the magazine's continued development."
