Harrogate take top honours at Hardraw Scar

Harrogate

The 2009 Hardraw Scar Brass Band Festival was blessed with perfect weather last weekend.

Sun shine

The sun shone, the Yorkshire dales gleamed on the skyline and children paddled in the river while the bands played their hearts out to an audience of over 1,000.

The contest is a run as a collaboration between the owner of the Green Dragon Inn and the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association with the generous support of a number of local sponsors including Theakston’s Brewery.

14 bands

14 bands played at this year’s event with prizes split between two classes.

Harrogate Band took the overall title with a programme that included Curnow’s 'Fanfare and Flourishes' along with the march 'Roll Away Bet' which also won them the best march prize.

Adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth thoroughly enjoyed his day and paid particular compliment to Elland Silver Youth and their mature performance which saw them take the class B title.

The 2010 contest will take place on Sunday 12th of September.
