Roberts shrugs off Open disappointment

Rothwell's MD shrugs off the disappointment of coming 15th at the British Open on the weekend.

David Roberts, the MD of the Rothwell Band has spoken to 4BR about his disappointment at his band’s result at the British Open last weekend and his reaction to it.

Shrug of the shoulders

David told 4BR: "Like others I was disappointed to find out where we came, but after an initial period of about 10 minutes of puzzlement, I decided to shrug my shoulders and accept that sometimes things don’t always go the way you wish them to at major contests."

...to come 15th does hurt – but that’s contesting for you. You win some and you lose someDavid Roberts

Played well

He added: "I felt we played really well on the day and we certainly put a great deal of work into the piece, so to come 15th does hurt – but that’s contesting for you. You win some and you lose some.

I have been encouraged though by close on 100 messages of congratulations and sympathy, and the band was even pleasently surprised to see 4BR put us in the frame! We must have done something right then!"

Relegation

The result means that just after returning to the British Open, 2010 will see Rothwell with one eye over their shoulder to ensure they don’t get drawn into any potential relegation battle once more.

"If we play like we did on the weekend, I don’t think we will have any problems. That’s for another year though, and now we are determined to show just how good a band we are at the Royal Albert Hall.

We have had a great year so far, so even this little bit of a disappointment won’t knock us off our stride."
