New direction at Blaenavon

There is a new musical direction at Blaenavon — all in time for the last Welsh League contest of the year in their home town too.

Blaenavon

Blaenavon Town Band has announced that it has appointed Andrew Protherough-Jones as its new Musical Director.

Musical family

Andrew comes from a musical family and began his playing career as a trombonist with Blaenavon Colliery Workmen’s Band, remaining with them until departing to further his musical studies.

Graduate

A music graduate of the University of London and Bath Spa University, Andrew enjoyed a brief spell conducting Runnymede Brass as well as directing newly commissioned incidental music for the University Theatre department.

Andrew is the recipient of prizes awarded by the Incorporated Society of Musicians for the highest marks achieved in ABRSM music examinations.

We are pleased to renew our association with Andrew and look forward to working with him on some very exciting projects, including the South East Wales Brass Band Association Contest in our home town in a weeks timeSecreary, Paul Miles

Demand

A qualified teacher, he has, for the past eight years, been Director of Music at West Monmouth School.

For over ten years Andrew has conducted the female choir, Coro Cantabile, and he is also regularly in demand as a conductor of operatic societies and musical theatre across South Wales.

Exciting

Band Secretary Paul Miles told 4BR:"We are pleased to renew our association with Andrew and look forward to working with him on some very exciting projects, including the South East Wales Brass Band Association Championship Contest in our home town in a weeks time and also recording a CD in the New Year."
