Black Dyke has been presented with their 'Letter to the Future' from Cambridge University.

Cambridge certificate

At their concert in Selby Abbey last Saturday, Dr Cynthia Lampert Moore, from the University, presented a certificate to MD Dr Nicholas Childs which will enable a future representative of the band to retrieve the letter from a vault in Cambridge which was sealed by Her Majesty the Queen last Thursday.

It is with pride that I look forward to the future generation presenting this key in one hundred years time and reading with inspirationDr Nicholas Childs

Delighted

Dr Lampert Moore told 4BR: "I am delighted to present this certificate to Dr Childs. The letter for the future has been written in this 800th anniversary year of the university to celebrate the University’s great musical traditions, and what better organisation to link this special letter with than the world famous Black Dyke Band, in a year when they have extended their historical Championship winning record."

Great honour

Dr Childs added: "Saturday was a great honour for me to receive such an important letter on behalf of Black Dyke. It also underpins the stature Black Dyke is held in the larger sphere as an organisation and as a leader in brass bands."

He concluded: "It is with pride that I look forward to the future generation presenting this key in one hundred years time and reading with inspiration."
