Coalburn end year on Scottish high

The Coalburn Band has ended its contesting year on a high after claiming the Scottish Challenge Cup title.

Coalburn Silver has brought the most successful year in the band’s history to a close with a resounding victory in the Scottish Challenge Cup at Perth last weekend.

The band was a comfortable winner in a fiercely fought competition, overcoming a field of 7 bands to lift their latest piece of silverware.

Hollywood

Playing 'Hollywood' by Goff Richards, the musical direction from conductor Gareth Bowman was commented on by adjudicators Ian Porthouse and Andrew Duncan, as weere the indivdual performances of solo trombone Elizabeth Meikle, flugel horn Alex Sheridan and percussion team supported by a round band sound.

Champions

There was further success for the band when they were crowned Third Section Scottish Brass Band of the Year 2009, and Band President, Alan Court was on hand to receive the commemorative banner along with the Scottish Challenge Cup.

Titles

The year has seen the band claim the titles of Borders Champion and Fife champion, along with a highly commendable 5th place at the National Championship in Harrogate and gain promotion to the Second Section to bring to a close the most successful year in the bands 107 year history.
