New principal at Wellington

Wellington (Telford) welcome a new talent as principal cornet.

Wellington

The talented 16 year old Helen Polatajko has been appointed as the new principal cornet of the Wellington (Telford), following her move up through the band’s cornet ranks in the past couple of years.

Debut

Helen will make her debut in her new role at the forthcoming Midlands Regional First Section contest in Bedworth in March.

The move comes following the resignation of former principal cornet Heather Fury's.

Increased studies

Heather had been travelling back from Cardiff University since 2009, but increased studies have now made this impossible to maintain, although the band are delighted that she has retained her registration with them.

Brilliant ambassador

Musical Director Mark Phillips told 4BR: "Heather has been a brilliant ambassador for the band and consistently superb performances have wowed audiences and adjudicators alike. I am proud to have had such a talented and gifted player as my principal cornet and wish Heather every success in her career."
