At the invitation of Greater Manchester Police, Smithills School Senior Brass Band under the baton of MD Chris Wormald, recently performed at the City of Manchester Stadium, home of FA Cup winners Manchester City FC.

Seats

A dozen or so police officers were attempting to sit on every one of the 48,500 seats in the stadium in order to raise money for St Anne’s Hospice. The task was completed in time for Smithills to play for the Lord Mayor of Manchester, who arrived to conclude the afternoon’s proceedings.

During the afternoon the band performed the hymn tune ‘Dear Lord And Father of Mankind’ in honour of former Manchester City legend Mike Doyle who died last week, aged 644BR
