New National contest in 2012?

A new National contest aimed at bands in Sections 1 — 4 could well be a reality by the end of the year...

4BR understands that the first formal discussions have taken place that could well see a brand new national competition return to the contesting calendar later this year.

New event

The Leisure Group Britannia Hotels is believed to be looking into the possibility of running a new event at the former Pontins Holiday Resort in Prestatyn, which is currently out of commission and being extensively refurbished.

A source told 4BR that the new owners are determined that the new competition will bring back a family orientated weekend of high quality entertainment and contesting to the popular resort in the first weekend of November.

Two legged format

It is understood that the new event will be for bands in Sections 1 – 4 only, with the possibility of each contest being fought over two disciplines — a test piece on the one day and an entertainment programme on the other.

As yet no formal details have been released, but it is understood that it is hoped to make a well funded brass band competition a central part of a new programme of national events at the North Wales resort.
