Pemberton encourage new generations

Pemberton Old Wigan DW look to the future with youth workshops.

Pemberton workshop

Pemberton Old Wigan DW recently hosted a successful Brass & Percussion workshop at the local Worsley Mesnes Primary School.

Youngsters

A host of young players with an average age of ten took part in the day long event which consisted of individual brass lessons led by Pemberton players Joanne Johnson, John Atkinson, Becky Caldwell, Lynne Campbell, Nick Birch and Ian Bateson.

A tuned group percussion session was led by David Chapman and Helen Don-Duncan, whilst the 'first timers' were catered for by John Don-Duncan.

After enjoying their dinner time sandwiches the youngsters took part in a full ensemble rehearsal, finishing the day with a concert for their family and friends.

Fantastic day

Pemberton's Richard Johnson told 4BR: "The day was fantastic and the kids were so well behaved and enthusiastic, that we will definitely be doing it again. We really want to encourage children from our local community to learn a brass instrument and as an organisation of three successful bands we have very much to offer."

He added: "We will continue our partnership with Wigan Music Service and provide children with the great opportunity to become part of a brass band family."
