Bolsover success paves way for 2013 repeat

The success of the recent Bolsover Brass Summer School means a repeat treat is on the cards for 2013 — so book early!

Course Director Ian Porthouse

The recent Bolsover Brass Summer School in Derbyshire has been hailed as a great success, following a week of high class music making, tuition and plenty of fun for the delegates that attended.

Led by Course Director Ian Porthouse with the assistance of his team of tutors, Mark Wilkinson, David Hirst, Helen Williams, Glyn Williams, John Barber, Gavin Saynor and Mark Landon, the event was hosted at Heritage High, Clowne with accommodation based at the local Ibis Hotel.

Tremendous success

Ian Porthouse told 4BR: "It really was a tremendous success, with the delegates enjoying a week of varied musical and cultural activities. The responses we have had back have been amazing, and the opportunity to join us again next year has already been put in place."

With full and sectional rehearsals allied to targeted individual tuition, the musical needs of each delegate were explored in full, whilst the tourist attractions at Hardwick Hall, Creswell Crags and Renishaw Hall offered time for relaxtion.

Opportunities

In addition the delegates were given the opportunity to hear the Sinfonia Viva Orchestra as well as All England Masters Champions, Tredegar in the course finale concert.

As one delegate told 4BR: "The Summer School was simply fantastic. There was so much to enjoy and plenty to learn – a great mix of hard work and play!"

Quality

Ian Porthouse agreed: "This seems to be down to the fact that numbers are managed to ensure that the experience is outstanding for both tutors and participants. The one topic everyone agreed on was the quality of the food: I think everyone put on a few extra pounds!"

2013 event

Next year’s Bolsover Brass Summer School will take place on the 20-26 July 2013.

The course will be led by the same strong elite team of director and tutors as 2012. Bookings made by Friday 26th October will be offered an early bird incentive with a deposit of £100 needed to secure a place.

There is also the opportunity to pay the remaining costs in 4 instalments to make attending the summer school more financially accessible.
