Welsh champions Cory have announced that they will be undertaking their first ever tour to Australia in 2013.

11 date tour

Working with local promoters Brass Down Under, the 11 date concert series in August next year will see them open in Perth before moving on to Adelaide, Frankston, Geelong, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle.

The project will be the band’s first extended overseas trip since their 1976 tour to the USA as part of the country’s bicentennial celebrations.

Lasting memories

Director of Music Philip Harper told 4BR: "Everyone associated with the band is excited about the opportunity of performing for the Australian public.

With our array of world class soloists and the well known Cory sound I’m sure we can deliver concert repertoire that will resonate with audiences and leave long lasting memories."

Flavour

Robert Turner from Brass Down Under added: "In recent years the Australian public has had the opportunity to hear the likes of top English bands, YBS, Black Dyke and Grimethorpe. Cory's visit will bring the flavour of Wales alongside their unprecedented status as one of the world’s finest brass bands."

He added: "We have no doubt that their style, presentation and musicianship will convey the unique quality that has seen them accumulate so many accolades. We are thrilled at the prospect of hearing them perform live and are sure they will enhance their already substantial reputation."

International profile

Cory’s tour manager John Southcombe believes the tour represents a huge opportunity to widen the band’s international profile.

"We’ve known for some time we have great support from brass band enthusiasts in Australia," he said. "This tour is a fantastic opportunity to repay that and perform for those people who may not have had the chance to listen to the band live in concert previously.

We are all very excited about the venture and looking forward to working closely with Brass Down Under to deliver a successful concert series and representing Wales and the UK as international ambassadors."

Confirmed dates and times of all the scheduled concerts will be announced in the near future.
