Handley Band Uniforms enjoyed a remarkable performance at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London last month.

The company was proud to have supplied uniforms and accessories for both events – with a worldwide audience in its billions watching their products in action at both the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

Wealth of experience

The company was originally commissioned to supply uniforms for Grimethorpe Colliery Band who appeared in the Olympic Opening Ceremony, but as Lorraine Ebdon of LOCOG commented to 4BR:

"Following our initial meeting with Jon Handley we realised the potential of working with their wealth of experience and manufacturing background.

The company fulfilled our brief to source products from companies manufacturing in the UK, and they met the many varied challenges and deadlines set by us for a global event of this nature."

Proud

A very proud Jon Handley added: "Following the delivery of the Grimethorpe uniforms we were also asked to provide a wide variety of products for both the Opening and Closing Ceremony.

These included tail suits, waistcoats, shirts and bow ties for the London Youth Orchestra and notably the white gilets and cycling accessories for the iconic Dove Cyclists that were featured so prominently at the end of the Opening Ceremony."

More than 1,200 items

He added: "We were given just a two week period to complete more than 1,200 items of uniforms and accessories for the closing ceremony. Utilising all the different divisions within the company we were proud to supply uniforms and accessories from our own fabrics and that of the ‘Newsprint Fabric’ specially commissioned by the games committee."

John revealed that these included various uniform types, such as children’s school blazers, military styled jackets and trousers – and even lollipop ladies and dinner ladies uniforms!

Spice Girls

"Our garments were also notably worn by the security escorts for the Spice Girls and chauffeurs of the iconic white Rolls Royce driving Jessie J, Taio Cruz and Tinie Tempah," he said.
