Samuel set for Poynton Area appearance

The experienced Neil Samuel will direct VBS Poynton at the North West Area in March.

The Vernon Building Society Poynton Band has announced that due to increased work commitments, regular MD Colin Short is unable to direct their appearance at the forthcoming North West Regional Championships in Blackpool in March.

However, the band has acted swiftly to engage the highly experienced Neil Samuel to conduct on the set work, ‘Brass Triumphant’.

Meanwhile, the band has also announced that a number of new faces around the stands.

New signings

Nick Harrington comes in on solo cornet whilst carrying on playing with Poynton Youth Band, with Cara Wheeldon on 2nd cornet and Sue Tideswell on 2nd baritone, both from Whaley Bridge.

Russell Turner and Michael Hunt come from the sister organisation Poynton Concert Brass to fill the first and second horn positions.

Thanks

Beth Haworth, currently studying for a music degree at the University of Manchester comes in on flugel to replace Sarah Johnson, who has stepped down after 20 years sterling service to follow work and family commitments.

The band also say goodbye to Natalie Dodman and Jenny McDermott.
