Wychavon help still required

The future of one of the best run, most popular brass band contests in the UK still remains in doubt – despite offers of help.

Wychavon Festival

Following a new report on 4BR on 7th March, 4BR has been informed that the future of the popular Wychavon Festival of Brass Entertainment Contest continues to be under threat despite welcome offers of assistance.

The contest is due to take place on the weekend of September 14th and 15th this year in Evesham, with the hard working organisers are still seeking help from the banding community.

Financially sound

Although financially sound, despite the economic climate that has seen a curtailment of available grants from local authority and council sources, the contesting aspect of the Festival’s activities is in jeopardy.

Personnel

As Chairperson Val Trim updated 4BR, help has been forthcoming, but more would be welcome.

"Thanks to 4BR, we have been contacted by some great people offering expertise and assistance," she said.

"However, even that may not be enough. The event is so popular that we really do need capable, younger people to help run the contest and to do the prep work in the months leading up to the event itself."

She added: "None of the help required is particularly onerous – it’s just essential to keep the event going."

Generous

The Festival contest has continued to attract between 40 and 50 competitors each year, thanks to a very generous prize fund and its excellent organisation, so Val hopes this appeal will encourage extra help to come on board—so that they can keep helping the bands themselves.

Those who feel they can help can attend the important forthcoming AGM to be held on Wednesday March 27th at St Ecgwin’s Club in EveshamOrganisers

Important AGM

A repeat call has therefore been made to help save one of the banding movement’s contesting success stories.

Those who feel they can help can attend the important forthcoming AGM to be held on Wednesday March 27th at St Ecgwin’s Club in Evesham.

Anyone interested in the future of the contest or in joining the organising committee is strongly advised to attend this meeting.
