Baker set for 40th birthday bash

Dyke star hopes to celebrate his 40th with little help from some trombone playing friends...

Brett Baker

Trombone star Brett Baker hopes to celebrate his 40th birthday in some considerable style at Bristol Cathedral on Tuesday 2nd July.

1000 players

The Black Dyke player is attempting to get as many as 1000 trombone players to join him at a lunch time mass blow starting at 1.15pm.

The idea came to Brett when a recital slot at the Cathedral became available on his birthday at the end of last year, and as he told 4BR, it provided a perfect opportunity to enjoy something of a landmark achievement!

Excited

"I’m very excited about the gathering of so many players – especially on my birthday. So far around 250 people have said they will be turning up for a blow, with an age range from 8-80.

Even some members of the British Army will attend in full uniform to take part."

New works

Composers who have written items for the recital include Will Gregory, Liz lane and Dr. Richard Rock.

Before hand Brett will play a couple of items with accompanist Ruth Webb as part of the recital before the massed trombone choir uses the full acoustic inside the Cathedral.
