Dumfries Town Band has announced the appointment of their new Musical Director, Neill McDonald.

Over the past few months, Neill has been working closely with the band in rehearsals and engagements where they have grown in confidence under his style, enthusiasm and motivation.

Neill told 4BR: "This is a band full of potential and personality. I look forward to moving them onwards musically. Already the band sound has improved thanks to the hard work of the players.

I aim to keep this momentum and take this into the second half of the year and to restore the town’s pride in their band."

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Neill is fairly new on the conducting scene, but brings vast experience in the playing department through his position as Bb bass at Johnstone Band.

The band would also like to thank Peter Hayes for his time with us and wish him the very best."
