In this, the first of a series of exclusive competitions for 4BR with our friends at Arcomis International, there is a pair of free tickets up for grabs to see trumpet virtuoso Håkan Hardenberger in action at The Arcomis International Brass Event, at St David’s Hall on Sunday 13th October.

Best in the galaxy

Heralded by The Times newspaper as, '...the best trumpet player in the galaxy...' Håkan Hardenberger has appeared as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras.

Major works written for and championed by him stand as key highlights in the repertoire and include those by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Hans Werner Henze, Rolf Martinsson, Olga Neuwirth, Arvo Pärt, Mark Anthony Turnage, Rolf Wallin and HK Gruber’s amazing concerto ‘Aerial’, which has received in excess of 60 performances.

Fantastic opportunity

The Brass Event, October 10th – 13th, is a fantastic opportunity to experience the world's most celebrated brass musicians and music in one place, at one time.

The event will package an unrepeatable programme of soloists, ensembles and masterclasses into an exceptional four day festival of ‘Brass without Boundaries’.

Time and place

The Swedish trumpet virtuoso will appear at the closing concert of The Brass Event, on Sunday 13th October at 4.00pm at St David's Hall in Cardiff, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales — and you can win a pair of tickets!

Previous winner:
The winner of our English National Championship quiz – providing the winning answer of Revelation being the test piece played by the band that topped to the own choice section of the contest was Steve James of Hull.

He won 4 bottles of Blue Juice valve oil and neat TGI metronome and tuner, as well as a copy of Black Dyke’s George Lloyd CD ‘English Heritage’, conducted by David King and Jean Pierre Chevailler’s ‘The Classic Euphonium’ CD which is conducted by the composer himself.
