Skelmanthope end Roberts tenure

Seven year partnership comes to a surprise end as Skelmanthorpe end muscial association with John Roberts.

JOhn Roberts

The Skelmanthorpe Band has announced that they have ended their musical association with Musical Director John Roberts with immediate effect.

Excellent

A spokesperson for the band told 4BR: "We have enjoyed several excellent years with John, and his track record with Skelmanthorpe speaks for itself. We wish to publicly thank John and wish him every success in his future endeavours."

Surprise

Although totally surprised by the decision, John has informed 4BR that he is now able to take on a new role with the Reg Vardy Band.

"After returning home from the National Finals at Cheltenham supporting the Skelmanthorpe B Band, I was amazed to find out the news.

I fully respect the band’s decision, although I think it would have been appropriate after so many years and enjoying such a close association and success, to have been informed directly."

Look forward

He added: "I wish the band the very best in the future as I now look forward to working with the Reg Vardy Band again."

I fully respect the band’s decision, although I think it would have been appropriate after so many years and enjoying such a close association and success, to have been informed directlyJohn Roberts

Success

During his tenure, Skelmanthorpe won the First Section Butlins Championship titles in 2007 & 2008 as well as the Northern Open, Yorkshire Area and numerous march and hymn tune contests.

They also gained promotion to the Grand Shield, and produced significant results in the Championship Section at the Yorkshire Area, All England Masters and English National Championships.
