Crowdfunding to help Bridge the CD gap

Menai Bridge Porthaethwy has been raising funds for their celebration project in an innovative way...

Raising funds

2014 sees the 120th anniversary of Menai Bridge Band Porthaethwy, a community band on Anglesey.

Over its long history the band has provided the starting point for many talented players who have gone on to study music, play in top flight brass bands or develop successful professional musical careers.

Celebrate

To celebrate the special anniversary properly, the band has set itself a number of targets in 2014 — from a brand new website, to developing a growing list of local community concerts and their first ever CD recording.

The CD is intended to create a musical ‘snapshot’ of what the band is about, and will feature performances from both its Junior and Senior ensembles as well as music that reflects the history of the organisation.

Recording

As spokesperson told 4BR that the band is hoping to raise funds for the project in a rather unique way — from crowdfunding, which they hope will enable them to raise the £1,200 target in time for the recording at the end of May.

"Crowdfunding is a great way of raising funds where supporters each make a small donation in order to help an organisation raise funds for a special project. The band has launched the project online and so far has managed to raise a quarter of the target!"
