Tylorstown takes place in Band Cymru final

National First Section champion Tylorstown has gained a place in the final stages of the innovative Band Cymru Contest.

Tylorstown

4BR has been informed that current First Section National Champion Tylorstown has been invited to join the televised Band Cymru competition to be aired by national broadcaster S4C this Spring.

Multi-genre

Following a change to the initial published programme of finalists, the band will join Cory, Tredegar Tongwynlais and Northrop as the brass bands taking part in the innovative multi-genre contest.

Band Cymru sees established brass, wind and jazz bands compete for a first prize of £10,000, with television production company Rondo Media hoping that it will provide a unique opportunity for worldwide audiences to enjoy the very best in Welsh musical ensemble entertainment, with the event also being broadcast online and via satellite.

It is understood the band will replace BTM, who were initially chosen but could not field a full strength band for the final stages of the competition.

This is yet another major step forward in our quest to become an established Championship Section bandMD, Gary Davies

Delighted

Band Manager Kevin Jones told 4BR: "We're delighted to accept the invitation. We were told that based on the pre-recorded adjudication, we'd just missed out on the original selection, and due to a withdrawal we were next on the list."

MD Gary Davies added: "This is yet another major step forward in our quest to become an established Championship Section band. It's also great news ahead of the area and on the back of a great start to 2014.2
