4BR has been informed that the respected tuba soloist Joseph Cook has accepted the position of Musical Director of Fishburn Band.

The appointment follows the former Black Dyke star working with the band in concerts and with their preparation for the recent North of England Regional Championship in Darlington.

Looking forward

Joseph, who has studied conducting with Dr Nicholas Childs, Ray Farr and Phillip Wilby, has been MD of GT Peterlee Band since 2011, and has worked on a freelance basis with other bands such as Reg Vardy.

"I’m looking forward to working with the band on a regular basis and hope to develop alongside them," Joseph told 4BR.

"They have excellent players, an exciting schedule of engagements, a strong backroom team and a real determination to progress as a unit. I look forward to playing my part in their continued success on the concert and contest platform."

Combine

A graduate of the University of Leeds, Joseph will combine his conducting commitments with Fishburn with his teaching and playing, which have recently included concerts with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

A spokesperson for Fishburn added: "The band is looking forward to working with Joseph on some exciting projects, concerts and contests in the coming months, starting at the Senior Cup in Blackpool."
