David Roberts has just notched up 20 years at the helm with Rothwell Temperance Band.

Rothwell Temperance Band has just helped Musical Director David Roberts celebrate 20 years at the helm of the Yorkshire band.

Book

To mark the occasion, players and supporters sprung a surprise presentation on him in the middle of a local concert, where he was presented with a framed band tie, engraved decanter and a unique book charting the band's progress under this command.

The book covered a remarkable success story — with David initially taking over with the band in 1994 when they were languishing in the Third Section.

Major titles

Since that time they band has enjoyed many contests victories — from the Third Section Yorkshire Area in 1994 to prestigious Championship Section Swiss Open, Pontins, All England Masters, Senior Cup, Grand Shield and Yorkshire Regional titles.

Under this baton the band has long been regarded as serious contenders at all the major championship events, including the British Open and National Finals.

The band qualified for the Royal Albert Hall event from 2008 to 2012, just missing out this year after producing a fine performance off the number 1 draw at Bradford.

David has built a remarkable band through his amazing commitment, dedication and talent. The presentation recognised his outstanding contribution to the band — one which we hope will continue for many more years to comeRothwell Temperance Band
