Irvine & Dreghorn claim Commonwealth Gold

Irvine & Dreghorn have certainly won over the stars of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after their gold medal performances.

Commonwealth Games

With the Commonwealth Games bringing sporting excitement, endeavour and brilliance to the heart of Glasgow at the moment, there was a great opportunity to show just what Scottish brass banding could bring to the worldwide event as the Irvine & Dreghorn Band was recently asked to perform at the Athletes Village.

Great afternoon

The band spent a great afternoon entertaining the athletes and support staff in their temporary home environment, marching through the village visiting the various country 'zones', with athletes racing out to see what was going on and to try and join in!

The band also played two short concerts on the ‘Village Green’ in between players gaining memorable ‘selfies’ with the stars.

Real honour

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It was a real honour to be invited to play in the village and a real thrill to be able to meet athletes from so many nations — all who were also thrilled to listen to us perform!"

They added: "I don’t think we have ever done so many tweets, selfies, photos and videos of ourselves in action, and we certainly had a blast!"

Second time

It is the second time in just a few weeks that the band has been invited to perform at a high profile event, after playing for Her Majesty the Queen at Dumfries House at the opening of its Walled Garden.
