The Dr Martin Wainstones Cup Contest, one of the most lucrative top flight competitions of the season will take place in a new state of the art venue later this year.

New venue

Contest organisers have informed 4BR that the event on Sunday September 13th, will be hosted by Yarm School near Stockton on Tees at their purpose built Princess Alexander Auditorium (above).

Set up in 2010 through the generous bequest made by an eminent consultant psychiatrist, Doctor Ian Martin, it is run by the trustees of the Cockerton Silver Band to quickly become an important and lucrative addition to the contest calendar.

£4,000 first prize

The contest is open to all Championship Section bands, who will have to perform a march, own choice solo feature and own choice test piece selection if they are to get their hands on the £4,000 first prize. The 2014 champion was the Reg Vardy Band.

Podium finishers will pick up £2,000 and £1,000 with the fourth placed band receiving £500 and each entrant £300.

There are also prizes for the ‘Best Soloist’ and ‘Best March’ performance.
