Fairey Band solo horn star Paul Bennett is currently in the USA enjoying a two week tour appearing as guest soloist in six concerts with Jim Gourlay’s River City Brass in Pittsburgh, along with a further brace of events with Illinois Brass Band.

Thrilled

The 2014 winner of the Besson International Award at the Foden’s Solo Contest told 4BR: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to visit the USA and appear with these fabulous bands, courtesy of the support Besson provides through the Foden’s competition.”

He added: “River City and Illinois are also quite different; with Illinois based on the British tradition of brass band style and repertoire, whilst River City has added their own special twist to create something unique. That makes for a wonderfully varied musical experience.”

Music

The tour, funded by Besson, will see Paul include performances of the recently released ‘Baroque Concerto for Horn’ (Quantz, arr. Mark Allen), ‘Meditation from Thais’ (Arr. J. Hayes), and ‘Finale from the Violin Concerto’ (Mendelssohn, Arr. M. Hopkinson).
