Usk enjoy civic reception to celebrate 30 year achievement

Usk Town Band has enjoyed a civic reception in their honour to mark their victory at the Welsh Regional Championship in Swansea earlier this year.

Usk

Usk Town Band was recently given the honour of a civic reception hosted by their Mayor, Roger Galletley, at the historic Usk Sessions House in their home town in celebration of the band’s victory at the Welsh Regional Championship in Swansea earlier this year.

Over 30 years

That Fourth Section win will see them represent Wales at the National Finals in Cheltenham in September — the first time in over 30 years that they have done so, and also the first time since re-registering as contesting band in 2013.

Contribution

At the reception, Mr Galletley also recalled that he was also Mayor the last time Usk won the Welsh Regional title in 1982, and also noted the exceptional contribution given to the band by MD, Jeff Jones and several long standing members who have revitalised the band.

One of these was flugel player Samantha Burchell (above) who also played in the 1982 victory when she was only 14 years of age.

The band is now looking forward to competing at the latest Welsh League contest in Merthyr Tydfil on 16th May.
