Childs returns to Eikanger

Prof Nicholas Childs will return to lead Eikanger Bjorsvik at the Norwegian National Championship in 2016 after Prof David King becomes unavailable.

The Eikanger-Bjorsvik Band has announced that due to increasing professional commitments in the UK, Professor David King has informed the band that he will be unavailable to conduct them at the 2016 Norwegian National Championship.

Four consecutive wins

During his tenure, the Australian led Eikanger to four consecutive Elite Division victories at the Grieghallen in Bergen from 2011 to 2014 — the first time the band had achieved the feat.

However, Eikanger has moved swiftly to secure the services of Professor Nicholas Childs (above), with the Black Dyke Director of Music returning to a band that he led to five National title successes in 1999, 2001, 2005, 2008 and 2009.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Unfortunately, due to professional commitments Professor King has informed us of his unavailability.

However, we are pleased to welcome Professor Childs back to prepare and conduct us at the 2016 Norwegian Championships.

The musical partnership has already won five National titles, and we are very sure that we will enjoy working together again."
