York welcomes new top flight quartet

York Railway Institute Band welcomes a quartet of new players ahead of its first top flight Dr Martin appearance.

New players

York Railway Institute Band has welcomed a quartet of new signings (above) in the run up to their first appearance at the high profile Dr Martin Contest in September.

Youth and experience

The experienced husband and wife duo of soprano and repiano players Kevin and Jayne Moxon join as the North of England band cements it well earned Championship Section status with its appearance at the Dr Martin event.

Also joining in time for the contest are rising cornet stars Tara Appleyard and Joe Bradford having been developed through the excellent Otley and Tewitt Youth band structures.

The signings have given us a boost in the realisation that we are now in a position to attract such quality players who would be welcomed with open arms by any band!Musical Director Chris Hirst

Attract

Musical Director Chris Hirst told 4BR: "It's great to be able to attract such experienced players as Kevin and Jayne as well as talented youngsters of the quality of Tara and Joe.

They have all shown us the great commitment which is so important at a band where we rarely sit down with less than 100% attendance. All are completely focused on moving forward, and all have the massive potential for the future and the desire to succeed.

The signings have given us a boost in the realisation that we are now in a position to attract such quality players who would be welcomed with open arms by any band!"
