Ireland continues on rebuilding work

Ireland Colliery (Chesterfield) Band has been continuing to strengthen its playing ranks.

Ireland Colliery (Chesterfield) Band has welcomed a trio of new players to their ranks.

New players

Cornet player Rhianwen Head joins from Hepworth and made her debut with the band at the recent Bolsover Festival of Brass contest, whilst Clare Gregory, comes after enjoying a wonderful time at Ibstock Brass, as Ireland is significantly closer to her home.

Her first performance will be at the forthcoming Wychavon Entertainment contest.

Meanwhile, Dave Buckley comes in on solo euphonium. Dave, who played for many years with Thoresby Colliery on both baritone and euphonium, has been pursued by bands at all levels to join their ranks.

Welcome addition

Commenting on the arrivals, MD Ian Knapton told 4BR: "The welcome addition of these new arrivals brings in the experience we need to continue our progress and gives us greater flexibility.

We are already looking forward to 2016 and the band is growing in confidence with each rehearsal."
