McCann makes welcome return to lead Kirkintilloch in Perth

Phillip McCann will lead Kirkintilloch's challenge at the Scottish Championship in Perth next month.

Philip McCann

The Kirkintilloch Band has announced that Phillip McCann will conduct them at the forthcoming Scottish Championship in Perth.

The renowned cornet star and conductor has worked with the band on a number of occasions over the last few years, including their qualification in Perth for the National Finals in 2013.

Thrilled

Speaking about the decision, solo euphonium, Andy Robson, told 4BR: "Having worked successfully with Phillip before, we are thrilled to have the chance to link up with him again.

His musicality and attention to detail is second to none, and we feel that these qualities will bring the best out of us. The band is in a great place with the new players we've signed.

We enjoyed a full weekend of rehearsals last weekend and the difference was clear as soon as we began playing."

Opportunity arises

Phillip himself added: "I had intended to take a break from contesting but when the opportunity arises to go home to Scotland it's very difficult to refuse and even more so when the opportunity is presented to work once again with Kirkintilloch.

I'm looking forward to making music together on 'Cambridge Variations'.
