New boost for Childs Play collaboration

The leading Bloodwise Charity has added its support to the ground breaking musical partnership celebrating all things great about Childs Play.

Childs Play
The Childs Play partnership has been hailed as one of the most significant multi-collaboration musical endeavours in the UK.

The ground breaking musical collaboration celebrating the history as well as modern day importance of 'Childs Play', has received a further boost ahead of its premiere in Shirebrook in North Derbyshire later this year.

The Bloodwise Charity, which funds world leading research into finding a cure for the 137 different types of blood cancers and to help improve the lives of those who suffer from them, has added its support to the event.

Highlight work

Regional Manager Emma Jane Jones, told 4BR: "We are delighted to be working with Bolsover District Council, Shirebrook Town Council and so many wonderful partners.

We feel that this is a real opportunity to highlight our work in the local area and specifically our work into childhood Leukaemia."

Project

The innovative project led by Bolsover District Council and Shirebrook Town Council in partnership with arts bodies, education providers, film makers, private home developers, composers, broadcasters, Black Dyke and Shirebrook Miners Welfare and Shirebrook Academy Wind Band Bands, will be broadcast live on the internet on Saturday 15th October.

Grants for Arts

The 10 month long project, made possible through funding by Arts Council England through 'Grants for Arts', has seen composer Paul Lovatt-Cooper work with pupils from the Shirebrook Academy on the brass band and choral soundtrack for a special 14 minute film, which will be performed by Black Dyke Band under the direction of Prof Nicholas Childs.

It will also feature narration by 'Listen to the Band' presenter Frank Renton as it explores a family friendly time-line history of many well known nursery rhymes and games from the Victorian era to the present time — all underlined by the importance they provide in a child's enjoyment of educational play.

Live internet broadcast

The live internet broadcast will see Black Dyke, led by Prof Childs, bringing together the musical strands alongside a host of primary school choirs to join Frank Renton for a performance that will provide the local community with a musical celebration of the innovative partnership — and its lasting legacy.

Black Dyke entertainment

Black Dyke has also revealed that the concert will feature music for all the family — from films such as 'Star Wars' and 'Mission Impossible' to their special 'Black Dyke Spooktacular', 'Sister Act', 'West Side Story', 'Gone with the Wind' and '633 Squadron' — all rounded off in the first half with the premiere of 'Childs Play' and at the end with a massed band item not to be missed!

A great taster trailer has already been produced to showcase the Childs Play project, its music and family friendly approach.
