Worldwide entertainment points to Brass in Concert

The 40th Brass in Concert Championship will have a worldwide entertainment flavour this year at Sage Gateshead — so why not get along and enjoy yourself.

Sage
All entertainment points are in the direction of Sage Gateshead this weekend.

The finishing entertainment touches are being put in place by the eleven competing bands that will take part in the 40th Brass in Concert Championship this weekend at Sage Gateshead.

Despite the withdrawal of Woodfalls Band the audience will still enjoy a full day of competitive brass band playing with the action starting on the stroke of 9.00am on Sunday morning with the welcome appearance of Dublin Silver Band from the USA.

However, there is almost as much brass band action to enjoy on the Saturday as a day packed full of workshops, fun events and concerts provides the tastiest of aperitifs — rounded off with a gala concert featuring Black Dyke and special guest star James Morrison.

Strongest field

Spokesperson John Woods told 4BR: "In this the 40th year of Brass in Concert, we are delighted to have our strongest ever international element, with competing bands from the Netherlands, Norway and the USA.

It will be a great pleasure to welcome these fine bands to Sage Gateshead and we are sure that the audience will take the opportunity to hear them in their individual concert performances on the Saturday, which are all free of charge, as well as in the contest."

Further elements

John added: "Further exciting elements of this wonderful weekend festival of brass include an exhibition that will reflect upon the 40 years since Brass in Concert started in the Rothmans works canteen in Darlington, as well as free concerts from Dublin Silver Band, Brass Band Schoonhoven and Stavanger on the Saturday.

Nobody will want to miss Black Dyke and James Morrison on Saturday evening, whilst the youth events and appearance of Youth Brass 2000 add even more musical flavor to an event with worldwide appeal."
