The University of Salford Music & Dance Directorate has announced the appointment of tenor horn virtuoso Owen Farr as its 2017 International Guest Tutor.

The Besson artist will provide performance workshops across the academic year as well as featuring in a high-profile Masterclass series.

It was also announced that the 2018 role will be taken up by Belgian euphonium player Glenn van Looy. The Geneva Instruments Performance Artist, who now lives in Switzerland, is currently studying for a postgraduate Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance at the University.

Impressive tutor line-up

Programme Leader Dr Brett Baker told 4BR: "The University has an impressive line-up of tutors, each a leading expert in their musical field. Many of them also work exclusively for the University such as Tom Davoren (conducting), Mark Wilkinson, Brian Taylor, Benjamin Richeton, Richard Iles and Richard Marshall (cornet and trumpet), Helen Varley (tenor horn), Rob Richardson and Katrina Marzella (baritones), William Millar and Gary Curtin (euphonium), Jim Fieldhouse (Saxophone), Fiona Slominska (Flute), Les Storey (trombone), Les Niesh (tuba) and Mark Langdon (percussion).

The new International Guest Tutors will further enhance the acclaimed standard of music teaching on offer, and we hope to also extend this to other parts of the course in the near future."
