York Railway Institute continues on the right tracks to future success

From being close to being shunted into oblivion, York Railway Institute Band is now looking forward to a bright future.

Signings
More signings have boosted York Railway Institute Band even further

York Railway Institute Band has made a remarkable return to musical health in the last 12 months after finding itself at one stage with no less than 17 player vacancies and no MD.

Flying

However, instead of closing its doors, the band set out on an ambitious recruitment plan, and with the appointment of the inspirational figure of David Lancaster as conductor they have risen like a musical Flying Scotsman.

Help has come from a variety of sources — including former cornet playing legend Graham Walker, with the result that after an intensive recruitment drive they are is now looking forward to the future with real optimism.

Latest additions

The latest additions are principal cornet Ollie Abbey, who has just completed his studies at Cambridge University and returned to work in the area, whilst the experienced Carolyn Ramsbottom, formerly of Yorkshire Co-op and Hepworth, comes in on flugel horn.

More experience see the respected Liz Rochester on horn, who also returns after many years of dedicated service for the Kirkybmoorside, Harrogate and Rowntree bands.

Meanwhile, the bass section been bolstered by the arrival of Dan Lancaster formerly of Wetherby Silver and currently a member of the NYBBGB, whilst the trombones welcome the arrival of rising star Peter Fewster.
