Funding bids boost Great Yarmouth youth development

A brace of successful funding bids will enable Great Yarmouth Band to invest in yet more youth development work.

The grants will enable the band to invest further in their youthful talent.

The Great Yarmouth Band has been successful in recent bids for funding, with awards totalling £2,500 from the New Endeavour Rangers Fund and the Brighter Future Fund.

Outreach

These will enable the band to run an outreach programme, working in partnership with local schools in order to offer instrumental tuition to a small number of targeted children who would, otherwise be precluded from learning an instrument.

The funds will also provide teaching materials and music stands for the participants.

It is the latest investment being made in securing a youthful future — with a concert also taking place this weekend entitled 'Future Brass 2017' which will include items by GY Future Brass alongside Great Yarmouth Brass.

At the concert the Ron Larkins Memorial Shield will be presented to the winner of the annual Future Brass Solo Competition which is being held this Friday, with the winner invited to perform their solo at the concert4BR

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are sure that Ron, who really was 'Mr Brass Band', would be very pleased with the efforts to encourage young brass and percussion players.

He would also have been even more pleased that we now have players from GY Future Brass attending rehearsals and engagements with the senior band."
