Skelmanthorpe's prospects looking up for 2019 and beyond

Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass has enjoyed a great 2017 — but is now planning for further success in the next 12 months.

Skelmanthorpe
Skelmanthorpe Prospect are certainly looking forward to 2019 and beyond

Following a highly successful contesting year, Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass has boosted their playing ranks ahead of their promotion to the First Section in 2018.

Tenor horn duo James Turner and Carolanne Duncan join from Hade Edge, whilst Murray Preston re-joins his childhood band on front row from Emely. Finishing off the top end is Michael Brook on soprano who comes from Unite the Union.

Warm welcome

There is also a warm welcome for two new trombone players in John Haston from Grange Moor and Katy Surrige on bass trombone from Sheffield Uni Brass Band. Oliver Booth re-joins on baritone and Ben Smith completes the new signings on euphonium.

I'm over the moon with the new additions. The players are contributing well to our band ethic and will help us to push on when we join the First Section in JanuaryConductor, Phil Garlick

First outing

For many their first outing will be the band's last contest in the Second Section as they compete at the YHBBA contest in Dewsbury in November.

Conductor Phil Garlick told 4BR: "I'm over the moon with the new additions. The players are contributing well to our band ethic and will help us to push on when we join the First Section in January."
