Horn legend recalls musical career

A new book recalls the musical life of the iconic tenor horn player Gordon Higginbottom

Gordon Higginbottom
There is sure to be plenty of interest in the virtuoso horn player's book

The brass banding life of the legendary tenor horn virtuoso Gordon Higginbottom has been put in print thanks to a new book published next week.

Iconic

From 'Umchucks to Cadenzas' — 'The Highs and Blows of Higgy' is the life story of a player who started his career at Kearsley Band, before enjoying periods with the iconic CWS Manchester under Alex Mortimer, exciting times at Besses o'th' Barn and Wingates and ground breaking brass music making with James Shepherd Versatile Brass.

Highs and lows

Gordon said: "This is a book in which I relate the highs and lows of my musical journey of over 60 years as a player. There are many highs and some real low points for sure.

What has gone on behind the scenes will no doubt raise eyebrows, but also raise a few smiles. However, I simply relate events as they happened."
