The 10th Allan Withington Conducting Summer School takes place in Leeuwarden

2018 marks the 10th anniversary of Allan Withington Conducting Summer School, one which will be celebrated with another inventive week of music making under his direction in Leeuwarden between the 23rd — 29th June.

Number 10

As a result, this year's programme entitled 'Number 10' will once again bring new and dynamic ways of working with delegates to help develop their overall conducting skills and talents.

The host band will by Soli Brass, whilst there will be the opportunity to engage with a leading fanfare band and with a number of guest presenters and tutors.

Worldwide profile

The course has gained a worldwide profile with the end of course Gala Concert taking place in the heart of Leeuwarden in conjunction with the prestigious classical festival City Proms, as part of Leeauwarden's 2018 European City of Culture attractions.

Course Administrator Anja Abma told 4BR that the 10th anniversary is a significant landmark to celebrate. "We now welcome delegates from all over the world,"she said.

"The opportunity to work and learn with Allan is one that engages with conductors both starting out on a hobby and those who wish to improve their professional level skills — it's that diversity that makes it so special — and even 10 years after the first delegates came to us, Allan keeps in touch to ensure the skills learnt are always developed further."

We have asked the local weatherman to order fantastic weather as usual, so the cosy atmosphere of downtown Leeuwarden with its array of bars and restaurants and we have again the makings of a truly great week."
