Report & Results: 2018 Wantage Silver Band — Solo, Duet & Quartet

Over 60 players took part in Wantage Silver's recent 'Inner Band' competition — with plenty of fantastic playing on show.

There were plenty of fantastic performances and a wonderful musical buzz on show at Wantage Silver Band's own 'Inner Band' competition.

With the best part of 200 players belonging to the organisation across eight different bands, the day saw over 60 performances from all ages and abilities, with adjudicator David Hirst and the indefatigable accompanist Susan Holmes enjoying the music on offer from the talented performers.

Stand out performances

Two stand-out performances came from 16 year old Megan Giles who gave a fine rendition of 'Demelza' to take the Junior Slow Melody title, and 13 year old James Hindson (above) who delivered a sparkling 'Carnival of Venice' to win the Junior Solo category.

As an extra prize, both will now perform these solos accompanied by Wantage Band under MD Paul Holland in a concert in July.

Packed

Organiser Sam Wyne told 4BR: "The day demonstrated what a fantastic organisation this is. With 13 new beginners making their solo debuts and duets from the young and older members it also showed what a diverse group of players we have.

Our band hall was packed and this is just the way we like it!"
