Six superb photographic portraits of players taken just after they had performed at the 2017 National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall are currently being displayed at the influential Grey Advertising Agency in Hatton Garden in London.

Determination

They were taken by renowned photographer David Imms, who prior to the event visited qualifiers Milnrow, Friary Guildford, Brighouse & Rastrick and Tredegar before returning on the big day to take images of players from all the competing bands.

As he said at the time to 4BR: "I want to try and show that determination to succeed in the portraits of the players — something that drives hard working people from all walks of life to give time to a hobby that brings them so much enjoyment in a competitive environment."

Results

The results, as seen by this stunning shot of Fairey Band tuba star Gavin Saynor, certainly show that (above).

Gavin's portrait is joined by players from Cory, Tredegar, Foden's, NASUWT Riverside and Co-operative Funeralcare on display at Grey, with David now preparing them for potential entry in a prestigious national photographic exhibition.

Nationwide

As he told 4BR: "Last year I was lucky enough to have an entry selected which was displayed on bus stops and billboards nationwide.

I feel the portraits I took in October are graphic and arresting as well as engaging with the subject, so I think one or more may stand a chance of getting in this year."
