Black Dyke will perform at Lincoln Cathedral in April

Black Dyke has announced the programme of music it will perform at its forthcoming appearance at Lincoln Cathedral on Saturday 28th April (7.30pm).

Their appearance follows at the historic place of worship follows a successful Arts Council England 'Grants for the Arts Programme' award secured by the Market Rasen Band and will round off a day of workshops led by Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs.

Reflects majesty

Black Dyke will also give the world premieres of two new works from composers William Himes and Paul Lovatt-Cooper, which will be later recorded by Market Rasen for a new CD release.

"We have chosen a programme that reflects the majesty of the surroundings and the inspiration it has given countless thousands of people who have passed through the doors of the cathedral over the centuries, as well as music to get the feet tapping,"Prof Childs told 4BR.

World premieres

The band will open with Walton's majestic 'Crown Imperial' whilst the first half will also include the overture 'Nabuco', the world premiere of Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'The Forces Unleashed' inspired by the battle for the city of Lincoln during the 'Anarchy' of 1141, and Eric Ball's classic 'Journey into Freedom'.

'Intrada: Ein Feste Berg' will open the second half before the world premiere of 'Intrepid Overture' by William Himes.

A number of the band's star soloists will also be featured before the evening is rounded off with the incredible sounds of Wagner's 'Procession to the Minster'.
