Exciting plans in place for Bolsover International Summer School

There will be plenty of musical attractions on offer at the forthcoming Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School — so don't miss out.

Hardw
There will also be a concert performance at the beautiful National Trust Hardwick Hall

Further plans for the 6th Bolsover International Summer School to be held between the 22nd — 27th July are well under way, with Course Director Steven Mead looking forward to welcoming delegates from all around the banding world.

Exciting event

He told 4BR: "This is turning out to be such an exciting event.

We have devised an inventive programme of activities and events that will entertain as well as musically challenge everyone involved — myself included — from sight reading tests and one to one tuition to the fantastic outdoor concert at the National Trust's Hardwick Hall (above) which attracts thousands of visitors every day."

He added: "We have put a great deal of thought into the music that will be worked on and performed, so delegates will find it enjoyable as well as engaging."

PLC and Himes

As revealed on 4BR, it will included Paul Lovatt-Cooper's recent work 'The Forces Unleashed', as well as William Himes newly commissioned 'Intrepid Overture' which received widespread critical acclaim following its premiere by Black Dyke at their recent Lincoln Cathedral concert.

Other works include 'Innuendo', 'The Saga of Haakon the Good', 'Mountain Song', 'Praise', 'Jurassic Park', 'ORB' and solos from tutors Mark Wilkinson, Rebecca Lundberg and Steven himself.

New march

Course co-ordinator Carole Hirst has also commissioned a brand new march entitled, 'Bolsover Castle' by Gavin Somerset in memory of David Morris who was a valued member of the Summer School staff.

Gavin was a personal friend of David and Carole felt it was fitting that his contribution to the growing success of the Bolsover Course was marked in this way.
