Extra honours make Children's Band course even more special

In addition to a great collective experience, four young players had something else to remember on their National Children's Band of Great Britain course

The enjoyment factor in being part of the National Children's Band of Great Britain was certainly enhanced for a quartet of young players as they were presented with individual awards from conductor Prof Nicholas Childs during their end of course concert at Repton School.

Awards

13 year old Lewis Barton from Elland Silver and the Red Admiral Academy Brass Band received a special plaque to mark his tenure as principal cornet on the 2018 course, whilst percussionist Owen Parr received the 'Most Outstanding Student' award.

The 'Baritone & Euphonium Prize' was presented to Edward Culpin for the second year in a row, whilst the prestigious 'Betty Anderson Memorial Award' went to horn player Daniel Marsh.

In an added bit of fun, Prof Childs also selected the cornets as his 'Section of the Week',

As always it's great to be able to present individual awards marking the progress and achievements of players, but in reality every member of the band deserves recognitionProf Nicholas Childs

Special course

He told 4BR: "As always it's great to be able to present individual awards marking the progress and achievements of players, but in reality every member of the band deserves recognition.

It was a very special course this year — one that showed that there is such a pool of exciting young brass band talent coming through."
