Waverley station for Scottish Open

Bands wishing to take part in this year's Scottish Open need to get their entries in if they want to test their mettle on a classic bit of Berlioz.

The contest will take place at Perth Concert Hall on 23rd November

The Scottish Brass Band Association is reminding bands that the closing date for entry for its popular Scottish Open Contest which takes place on Saturday 23rd November in Perth Concert Hall is fast approaching.

Berlioz

The contest will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of French composer Hector Berlioz, and will feature Howard Snell's remarkable and rarely heard arrangement of his overture 'Waverley'.

First used as an area test piece in 1984, Howard has agreed on a revised edition for the event which will be supplemented by band's also having to perform a Fanfare and Concert March arrangement by Howard.

Parts

Parts for competing bands will be available at end of June. The Fanfare & Concert March will be available free of charge as a download.

The adjudicators will be John Doyle and Alan Fernie
