Brighouse & Rastrick has announced two new signings, with the talented duo of Mike Cavanagh and Charlotte Horsfield joining the West Riding ranks on solo baritone and second trombone respectively.

Respect

Mike joins following five and half years at Grimethorpe Band. A founder member of the successful A4 Brass Quartet he has gained a respected reputation as a performer. He will now link up in the baritone section alongside his brother Steve.

Commenting on his move, he said: "Being a part of Grimethorpe Colliery Band has provided memories that will stay with me forever, but I feel the time is right to move on and start a new chapter with Brighouse & Rastrick.

I'm looking forward to starting after the summer break and working with Prof David King in preparation for the British Open. I'm also looking forward to teaming up with my brother Ste to form the baritone section.

Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone at Grimethorpe Colliery Band during my time there, and wish them all the very best under my former teacher Dr David Thornton."

We're absolutely delighted to welcome the signings of Mike and Charlotte, both excellent musicians who will be fantastic additions to the Brighouse teamBrighouse & Rastrick

Historic link

Charlotte takes over the vacant trombone seat following the departure of Ellena Newton who is expecting a baby boy. The RNCM student joins from Fairey Band where she played for the past 18 months.

The move also sees a historic Horsfield connection renewed, as Charlotte's late grandfather, David was a former principal cornet of the band.

Charlotte commented: "I'm really pleased to accept the trombone role. It means a great deal for me; being my home town band and where my Grandad used to play. I'd like to thank everyone at Fairey, especially Becky Lundberg, for all the support I have been given over the past 18 months, and I wish them all the best in the future.

I'm now looking forward to the next step in my playing with Brighouse and to work with Prof King."

Fantastic additions

The Brighouse & Rastrick spokesperson Ryan Watkins told 4BR: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome the signings of Mike and Charlotte, both excellent musicians who will be fantastic additions to the Brighouse team."
