Derwent Brass has announced the appointment of Joel Moore as their new solo baritone.

A former solo euphonium of Cornerstone Brass he joined Thoresby Colliery Band where he enjoyed a successful period including two appearances at the National Finals.

During his studies at Nottingham Trent University he gained the 'Alumni Instrumental Award' giving him a wealth of performance opportunities both in the UK and abroad, as well as finding time to achieve his music performance diploma on euphonium.

Looking forward

He told 4BR: "After a break from banding due to work commitments, I'm really looking forward to playing again. Derwent Brass is a great opportunity for me and as a band recognised for pushing the boundaries, I'm certain the future will be an exciting one."

20 year vacancy

Joel fills the vacancy recently left by Adrian Drewitt who held the seat for 20 years.

He told 4BR: "It's with deep regret that it's time for me to relinquish my role.

This has not been an easy decision to make after such a long period of commitment, but it is just no longer sustainable whilst holding a full-time job, starting a new home business and bringing up a young family.

I leave on the best of terms having made countless happy memories and many friends over the years. I sincerely wish them and my successor all the very best in their future endeavours."

Derwent Brass is a great opportunity for me and as a band recognised for pushing the boundaries, I'm certain the future will be an exciting oneJoel Moore

Dedication

In response Derwent Brass stated: "We would like to acknowledge the unremitting dedication Adrian had shown for the past 20 years both as a player and occasional committee member.

Following an audition process, we are also delighted to welcome Joel and wish him a long and enjoyable tenure with us."
