No more Mari Christmas at Tredegar

Welsh champion says a fond farewell to their Norwegian trombone player as they welcome a familiar face back to the ranks for 2020.

Tredegar Band has welcomed the return of trombone player Josh Herman to its ranks in time for the start of the new contesting year.

Josh rejoins the Welsh champion following the departure of second trombone player Mari Malm Mørkved who has taken up a new work opportunity back in her homeland of Norway.

Reversal

It sees a reversal of roles for the players as Mari took over from Josh when he left to join the British Army where he is now a member of the Band of the Prince of Wales Band.

Speaking about appointment, Tredegar MD Ian Porthouse told 4BR: "First and foremost our thanks and best wishes go to Mari who has been a quite remarkable bandsperson.

Not only has she been a fantastic player, her commitment in travelling from Wellingborough to Tredegar at least twice a week every week for rehearsals as well as concerts and jobs was incredible.

We wish her all the very best, and it's going to be great to welcome her back to the ranks in time for the European Championships in Palanga."

Great memories

Writing on her Facebook page, Mari, who worked for five years as part of the World of Sound team said: "I'm left with so many great memories and new friends! Thank you everyone!"

Looking forward to welcoming Josh, Ian Porthouse added: "We couldn't have asked for a better replacement. Having Josh back in the band is a huge boost for what is going to be a very important and busy year."
