Camborne call for solo entries

There is a great opportunity to make a musical mark at the Camborne Youth Band Solo & Quartet Contest later this month.

The popular Camborne Youth Band Solo & Quartet Contest takes place at the Camborne Science & International Academy on Saturday 18th January.

The closing date for entries to the 12 different classes is Tuesday 14th January.

Contest day

The contest day starts at 10.00am (draws 9.30am) with entrants having to impress adjudicator Ben Stratford, the award winning baritone star of Tredegar Band.

The accomplished pianist Clive Ellison will be on hand to provide accompaniment support if required.

Classes:

Class 1: 9 years and under Slow Melody (up to 5 mins)

Class 2: 12 years and under Slow Melody (up to 5 mins)

Class 3: 15 years and under Slow Melody (up to 5 mins)

Class 4: 18 years and under Slow Melody (up to 6 mins)*

Class 5: 18 years and under (non-slow melody up to 7 mins)

Class 6: Duet — 18 years and under (up to 6 mins)

Class 7: Quartet — 18 years and under (up to 10 mins)

Class 8: Open Solo Slow Melody (any age) — (up to 7 mins)

Class 9: Open Solo (any age) — Aire Varie — (up to 9 mins)*

Class 10: Open Duet: (any age) — (up to 8 mins)

Class 11: Open Quartet: (any age) — (up to 10 mins)

Class 12: Ensemble up to 12 players: (any age) — (up to 10 mins)

* Champion of Cornwall classes in conjunction with Helston, St Dennis and East Cornwall solo contests

Fees: £2.00 (solo): £2.50 (duet): £3.00 (quartet): £4.00 (ensemble)
