Cross Keys look towards Area after flood damage

Flood damage takes its toll on the Cross Keys Band, but help has come from the banding community to enable them to focus on their Area challenge.

Cross Keys
The damage caused by the flooding has been extensive

The widespread flood damage throughout the country caused by Storm Dennis has certainly upset the Area contest preparations of many bands — none more so than Cross Keys Band in south Wales.

Damage

Their bandoom is close to the banks of the confluence of the Ebbw and Sirhowy Rivers and with over 100mm of rain falling on high ground over the last couple of days the banks burst, flooding their premises, ruining music and damaging instruments, mutes and seats.

Speaking to 4BR, Musical Director Siôn Jones said: ""The damage done to the bandroom is terrible, but the main thing is that everyone is safe. We can replace bricks, stands and music, but the players are the most important thing."

The response to the plight has been overwhelming with numerous bands already in contact to offer help.

Thanks

Siôn added: "We want to thank everyone who has already donated to the cause — it means so much to us during this difficult time. It is also amazing to see the banding movement coming together to help out a band in need."
